Originally from Boulder, Colorado, Jay T. Hopkins, attended the University of Colorado, and received his B.A. in Environmental, Population and Organismic Biology. Thereafter, Mr. Hopkins received his J.D. from the University of Wyoming. While in law school, he served as a legal writing teaching assistant, acted as the director of the school’s Legal Writing Services and was a member of the Land and Water Law Review. After a few years practicing law, Mr. Hopkins went back to school and received his LL.M. from the University of Washington.
Mr. Hopkins started his legal career in Las Vegas in the areas of complex litigation and appeals. Throughout his career, Mr. Hopkins worked on a variety of cases, from small personal injury/insurance defense cases, to large document, multi-district Federal cases. In addition, he focused on writing and arguing appeals before the Nevada Supreme Court and 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. Appellate practice and motion work continue to comprise the bulk Mr. Hopkins’ current practice.
Spawned by his interest in real estate development, Mr. Hopkins is especially proud of a 162 acre parcel he developed into 55 home sites in Boulder County, Colorado. He has integrated that interest into his current practice and consults on a variety of real estate matters.
Mr. Hopkins is a member of the State Bars of Nevada and Colorado, and is also admitted to practice law before the United States Supreme Court, the United States Circuit Court of Appeals (Tenth, Ninth and Fifth) and the United States District Court (Nevada and Colorado).
With his wife, Jen and dogs Bailey and Brody, the Hopkins’ family enjoys anything outdoors and active, including hiking, paddle boarding and fitness. Mr. Hopkins is also a sailing captain, single engine pilot and scuba diving instructor and takes to the air and sea whenever possible.
